AWS Cloud/DevOps Engineer
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly capable AWS Cloud/DevOps Engineer to drive automation, reliability, and performance across our cloud environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and secure deployment of our applications and services.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using tools like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK to ensure repeatable and scalable deployments.
CI/CD Pipelines: Implement and manage automated CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions to streamline software delivery.
Cloud Operations: Monitor, manage, and optimize AWS environments, including EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, RDS, and S3, to ensure performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Automation: Develop scripts and automation workflows (using Python, Bash, or similar) to reduce manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices, including IAM roles, VPC configurations, encryption, and compliance with standards like GDPR or ISO 27001.
Monitoring and Logging: Set up and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using AWS CloudWatch, ELK Stack, or Prometheus to ensure system health and rapid incident response.
Collaboration: Work closely with developers, architects, and product teams to align infrastructure with application requirements and business goals.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve infrastructure and application issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime.
Cost Optimization: Analyze and optimize AWS resource usage to reduce costs while maintaining performance, using tools like AWS Cost Explorer or Trusted Advisor.
Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for infrastructure, processes, and configurations.
Skills and Qualifications
Experience:
3-5+ years of experience in a DevOps, Cloud Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role, with a strong focus on AWS.
Hands-on experience managing production-grade AWS environments and deploying cloud-native applications.
Experience with UK public sector projects or familiarity with G-Cloud and public sector compliance is a plus.
Technical Knowledge:
Expertise in AWS services, including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, Route 53, and CloudFront.
Proficiency with IaC tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CDK).
Strong experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS).
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automation.
Understanding of networking concepts (e.g., CDN, VPC, subnets, load balancers, DNS).
AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate) are highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex cloud and application issues.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience or certifications may substitute.
Other Requirements:
Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for production support.
SC eligibility or existing SC clearance is advantageous for public sector-focused roles.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with serverless architectures and AWS Lambda-based workflows.
Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
Knowledge of microservices architectures and API management (e.g., AWS API Gateway).
Background in specific industries such as finance, healthcare, or retail, with awareness of their regulatory requirements.
